Installing and Using Avidemux Video Editor

Avidemux is a free video editing program that also allows you to cut and convert videos. Below are the steps for installing and using it to edit a video.

1. Go to the Desktop

  1. Press Control + D or Control + M to go to the desktop.
  2. Press the letter G until you find the Google Chrome icon, then press Enter.
  3. In the address bar of the browser, paste the following link:

  5. Press Enter to load the page.

2. Download Avidemux

  1. On the page, press the H key repeatedly until you reach the heading "Downloads".
  2. Press Tab to navigate to the download link and press Enter.
  3. If another "Download now" link appears, press Enter again.

3. Install the Program

  1. Go to the Downloads folder and use the arrow keys to select the downloaded file (e.g., avidemux_xxx.exe), then press Enter.
  2. In the installation window:
    • Press Tab to move to the "Next" button and press Enter.
    • Press Tab again on the next screen and press Enter to confirm the installation path.
    • You can leave all options unchecked or choose as needed, then click "Next".
    • Use Tab to reach the checkbox in the license agreement, press Space to check it, then press Tab to "Next" and Enter.
    • Select the folder for installation or leave it as default, then press Next.
    • A security warning may appear — press Alt + Y or use Tab to reach "Yes" and press Enter.
    • After installation completes, press Enter on the "Finish" button.
  3. An Avidemux shortcut will appear on your desktop.

4. Change the Program Language (If Needed)

  1. Find the Avidemux shortcut on your desktop and press Enter to open the program.
  2. If the interface is in English:
    • Press Alt to open the menu.
    • Use the right arrow to open the "Edit" menu, then arrow down to "Preferences" and press Enter.
    • The focus will be on the "User Interface" tab.
    • Press Tab to reach the "Language" option and use the arrows to select your preferred language.
    • Press Enter to confirm, then close the program with Alt + F4 and reopen it.

5. Customize the Interface

  1. To remove panels from the main window:
    • Press Alt, then use the left arrow to reach the "View" menu.
    • Arrow down to "Panels", then press the right arrow to expand the submenu.
    • Arrow down to the first item and press Enter to hide it.
    • Use Tab to check if there are more items on the screen. If so, repeat the process for each panel.
  2. You can restore any hidden panel by selecting it again in the same menu or using hotkeys.

6. Load a Video File

  1. Press Ctrl + O to open the file selection dialog.
  2. Navigate using arrow keys, select the desired video file, and press Enter.

7. Explore Hotkeys for Editing

  1. Open the program menu by pressing Alt.
  2. Press Tab to reach the "Edit" menu, then press Enter and use the up/down arrows to navigate through menu items.
  3. Press Escape, then Tab to the "Navigation" menu item, and press Enter to explore movement commands.
  4. Press Escape several times to close the menus.

8. Edit and Save the Video

  1. Press the Home key to go to the beginning of the video.
  2. Press Space to play or pause the video.
  3. Stop near the point where you want to start cutting. Use arrow keys to move frame by frame for precision.
  4. Press Ctrl + T to set the exact time for trimming. Enter seconds in the first field and milliseconds in the second, then press Enter.
  5. Check the position by playing the video. Repeat this step until you have the exact cut point.
  6. Press Ctrl + Page Up to mark point A (start of the cut).
  7. Repeat the above process to find the end point B and press Ctrl + Page Down.
  8. Press Ctrl + X to cut the selected part of the video.
  9. If the program displays a warning like:
    "The end point of the cut is not on a keyframe. Saving in copy mode may cause damage."
    Press Insert + B to hear the message and confirm with Enter.
  10. Save the video by pressing Ctrl + S. You can change the filename and extension (e.g., from .mkv to .mp4).
  11. Choose a location to save the file and press Enter on the "Save" button. If another warning appears, press Enter again.

Note

The original video file remains unchanged. All edits are applied to a new file.
